Endodontics and Root Canals

Endodontics and Root Canals

Root canals are among the most common endodontic procedures performed, with over 14 million done annually. Dr. Orobitg performs root canals and other endodontic procedures right in his office to help relieve pain from decay, injury, inflammation or infection…and to save smiles.

Endodontic Therapy

Pulp, the soft tissue inside the root canal, can become inflamed or infected. The inflammation or infection can have a variety of causes: decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, a crack or chip in the tooth, or an injury to the tooth. If pulp inflammation or infection is left untreated, it can cause pain or lead to an abscess.

Symptoms are often identifiable as visible damage or swelling of the tooth, heightened temperature sensitivity, and pain in the gums.

If you’re experiencing the symptoms of infected tooth pulp, Dr. Orobitg may recommend endodontic therapy such as a root canal to eliminate the infected pulp. Once the pulp is removed, he carefully cleans and shapes the inside of the root canal and then fills and seals the space.

Endodontic therapy typically only requires local anesthesia and is usually completed in one or two visits, depending on your specific situation.

The success rates for root canals is around 90%, and if your tooth does not respond well to treatment or the chance of success is unfavorable, we will create a plan that works for your needs.

Post-treatment

Since endodontic procedures are non-surgical and only require local anesthetic, you will be back to feeling normal and able to resume your normal daily activities shortly afterward. Complications are rare.
