Porcelain Crowns
When a tooth has decayed enough that it doesn’t have the structure to support a filling, a crown is often used. A crown or “cap” is a permanent tooth covering that can be made out of a number of materials such as ceramic, metal, and stainless steel. We provide patients with all-ceramic crowns as they blend in the best with surrounding teeth. Thanks to advancements in dentistry, a crown can be virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth.
Crowns help to:
- Restore a tooth that cannot support a large filling
- Cover a discolored or misshapen tooth
- Attach a bridge
- Protect a weak or fractured tooth
- Cover dental implants
Unlike in years past, it is not necessary to file down the enamel on the tooth before fitting a crown. This means that you are able to conserve the healthy parts of your natural tooth.
You Only Need One Appointment!
Dr. Orobitg utilizes CEREC technology which allows us to create a custom-fitted crown in just one visit to our office. CEREC is a safe and efficient way to restore your smile and save you time.
Once we’ve decided that a crown is the best option, Dr. Orobitg will make an optical impression (i.e., a digital photo) which is turned into a 3-D model. Then, we shape a ceramic block to match the model through the use of an in-office milling machine. This takes about 15 minutes. Once we’ve tested it for the proper fit and bite, it is bonded to the tooth, and you’re done!
